Green Sukuk is to Malaysia’s Benefit
In an interview with Bloomberg TV Malaysia at the World Islamic Economic Forum, Climate Bonds Initiative CEO Sean Kidney explained why developing a green bond market is to Malaysia’s advantage, especially given its focus on infrastructure and energy projects.
Topics discussed included developing policies and incentives and the need to start a small market to engage investors with government to fund infrastructure projects. Sean Kidney added Social Sukuk had been on table in Malaysia since last year, and how he hoped Malaysia, given the maturity of its Islamic finance market may be able to issue the world’s first green Sukuk in time for the Paris Climate Conference due to start by end of November.
